How we safely clean your Oriental Area Rugs:
Step 1: Pre-Inspection and Pick Up
Our Technician will thoroughly inspect your area rug to find any damage or fiber issues. We Also will identify the type of oriental area rug and fiber to ensure that we use the right cleaning method on your rugs. We will outline the expected results and cleaning at the front “ you will receive a prescription”.
Step 2: Dry Soil Removal
Woven rugs, hand knotted oriental rugs usually hide a lot of dry soil. To remove this dry soil we use different techniques. The dust is removed from front and back with a machine we call pile Lifter and Rug Duster.
This vacuum has special attachments and setting that allows us to remove most of the dry soil. The Rug Duster is a machine that will remove all the dust embedded in the backing of your rug.
Removing dry soil is an important step in the cleaning because when with wet your rug with our rug cleaning process the dry soil will sink down to the backing and it will be hard to clean it.
Step 3: Fiber identification and colorfastness test.
If your Oriental rug is made of wool silk or any other natural fiber and the label or tag is missing. We will do a fiber identification test.We also do a fastness test to prevents a dye migration or bleeding.
Wool and silk oriental area rugs are dye with acid dyes which makes dye migration a big concern. That’s the reason we take our time doing the test to ensure we choose the right solution and cleaning method
Step 4: Pre-Condition
Each rug has a different fiber type and soiling conditions, your Oriental rug will be pre-treated with a solution to emulsify the soils with a wool-safe solution approved. We always give your rug from 5 to 10 minutes dwell time to get the most soil suspension possible.
Our shampoo will get maximum cleaning. Your Rug will be hand and detailed wash to ensure a deep cleaning.
Step 5: Pre-Spot and Fringe Preparation
Most of the red, yellow, grease and urine spots are pre-treated with special solutions to increase chances of removal. The fringes are also pre-treated for maximum soil removal and hand brush to get the most soil removal. Most of the time we are able to make the fringes of your oriental rug be white one more time.
Step 6: Additional Fringe Correction.
Some rugs and special the ones that have not been cleaned in a while will require additional cleaning to be able to correct the color. We have special procedures and solutions we use to make the fringes look its best.
This step is optional and it’s up to the owner. P.S We never use bleach. Chlorine will damage and create degradation on the fibers
Step 7: Rinse or Wash
The Rinse process is done with clean and fresh water to prevent cross-contamination and maximum spot cleaning.
We use an extraction equipment on both sides for some Oriental Rugs and for another one we washed in a wash pit designed especially for Oriental Rugs.
Step 8: Fiber Protector Application
Many flooring manufacturers recommend protector application after every professional cleaning because it helps to keep your rugs clean longer. It will also resist particle soiling as well as oil and water based stains. Protector application is optional but we highly recommend our clients to do it.
Step 9: Speed Dry
Once the soil is rinsed away, the rug will be dried flat or hung to dry in a controlled environment.
Fast drying is crucial to avoid unnatural shrinkage or any dye migration which is very common on area rugs. By drying in a controlled environment we ensure that those color will stay bright all the time.
Step 10: Finishing
When the rug is dry, it is combed and finished with soft groomers made for specialty rugs. We will roll your rug in paper and bring it to your home at your convenience time.
Step 11: Rug pad or underlay
Having the appropriate rug pad will prevent wrinkles and slippage of your oriental area rug, which will make a huge difference when you are vacuuming. Oriental Rug Pads help with a cushion to your rugs and at the same time, it makes them last longer. Your floor underneath will be protected from color transfer and stains.
