Can You buy Cheap & Durable Carpet?

Are you in the market for carpet? Did you see what I did there with rhyming my words? Anyways, if you are what are the determining factors that play into your purchase? One is probably durability, right?  Have you ever wondered if you can buy cheap & durable carpet? You are wanting something that is going to stand the wear and tear of the everyday lifestyle. Two would probably be price. Everyone wants a good deal. Whether it’s from a vacation down in Florida to your carpet. However, there is a slight problem.

You can find a durable carpet, but it will not be cheap. You can find a cheap carpet, but it won’t be durable. Another downfall that I noticed about the very durable carpets were not ones that I wanted to walk on every day because they were not very comfortable to my feet. So, I’m going to go over a few things to consider when purchasing a carpet.

Type of Fiber on Your Carpet

1. Fibers!!! I know what you’re thinking… “what in the world is she talking about?” I’m talking about the strands of fabric that make up the fibers of the carpet. Also, this may be a lengthy description. So, don’t be too afraid. I’ll try to describe this as easily as possible.

First off there is what is called a loop fiber. The loop fiber is exactly what it sounds like. It creates a loop. It’s not the most comfortable carpet you will set your feet on. However, it is the most durable, and the easiest to clean.

Secondly is the cut piles. Which this type of fiber is just the loop fibers that have been cut. This type of fiber will give you more cushion as you roam around your house. I don’t know about you, but the more cushion the more comfortable.

The third would be the good old twist pile. This, just like the loop pile is exactly what it sounds like. There are multiple fibers that are twisted around a single fiber. The downfall to the twisted fiber is that the more fibers that are twisted together the harder it will be for you to remove any unwanted soils that may encounter your carpets. Because let’s face it.. we have all spilled something on our carpets from time to time. I know I am guilty of this one.

Weight of your carpet

2. Weight! This pretty much refers to the number of fibers that are in an square inch of the carpet itself. The easiest way for me to describe this one is a feel test. If you are running your hands through the carpet. Can you get your fingers down into the carpet?

If so, you are looking at a twist fiber as well. This will have a looser pile consistency. This type of fiber will not be your least expensive and will not land you on the list of someone who has the same carpet for a long time. This type of fiber is well known to get worn out easily because the fiber per square inch is not as plentiful as the cut pile.

Now, as for the cut pile, you will not be able to get your fingers down deep into this carpeting. The density is real with this one you guys. This means the fiber per square inch is higher than the twisted piles.

Maintenance on Your carpet

3. Maintenance!! I know what you’re thinking.. “ what does that have to do with my carpets or my checkbook?” No, hear me out on this one. The maintenance on your carpet is super important.

You will definitely need to vacuum on the daily basis. However, if you want to get your money’s worth out of your carpets you will want to have them professionally cleaned. Here at Rodriguez Cleaning Services, we recommend that you get your carpets cleaned at least once every 12 to 18 months. This will ensure that any embedded dirt and grime in your carpets will be removed. This also will help with any allergies that you or your family may have. So, that’s also a plus side to getting the carpets cleaned professionally.
